Implementation Provisions
  • Allowed Medicare Part B charges for the e-prescribing measure codes are at least 10% of the total Medicare Part B charges.
  • Provider must be using a qualified e-prescribing system.
  • Report the e-prescribing quality measure (G-Code) 25 times within the year.

Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS)
In 2006 CMS was authorized to implement the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI).  Beginning in 2015, Medicare providers who do not participate in the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) will be penalized 1.5% of Medicare reimbursements based on the 2013 reporting year.
PQRS Program

 

  • 0.5% incentive payment on allowed charges for providers who meet the criteria for submission of quality measures data for services furnished during the reporting year Jan 1, 2012 through Dec 31, 2012. 
  • 0.5% incentive available in 2013 and 2014
  • No enrollment required, simply begin submitting the specified quality data codes on claims for covered services.


IRS Section 179 Tax Deduction
Section 179 of the tax code is an incentive by the U.S. government to encourage businesses to purchase equipment and invest in themselves.  Section 179 can be extremely profitable for your practice.  It is to your benefit to learn as much as possible.

2012 Provisions
  • Up to $139,000 Cap at 100% Depreciation.  Allows for full purchase price of qualifying equipment whether purchased or leased to be deducted from your gross income.
  • 50% Depreciation above the $139,000 Cap.
  • Normal depreciation beyond $560,000.
  • The equipment must be placed in service between 01/01/2012 and 12/31/2012.
